Task 1

Describe one of the most popular websites in your country? Explain why it is popular with details or examples.

Well, one of the most popular websites in my country is called BAIDU.COM due to the following reasons. Firstly, many people including me have been accustomed to surfing its page to search for some information we need. As everybody knows, baidu.com is a famous and effective searching website on which we can find thousands of replies to the questions in our mind. Additionally, most of us tend to use this website to read recent news, which is very convenient. Last but not the least, the simple and clean design of its major page is another reason why people enjoy using it.

Task 2

Leaving some time for group discussion in class is beneficial for study .Do you agree or not?

As far as I am concerned, Leaving some time for group discussion in class has much benefit. First of all, it enables us to exchange ideas directly after teacher’s instruction, which helps improve our learning efficiency and producing new ideas during the course of class. If we get confused, we can have someone to ask or discuss with at once. Moreover, when we discuss and argue with our partners, group discussion also provides us a way to reduce negative emotions and improve interpersonal communication skills. Talking with others, exchanging ideas, discussing and even debating has been proved as efficient ways to reduce negative feelings.

Task 3

【提議】：學校要求學生完成一篇比較復雜的論文senior thesis, 需要學生做調研，同時給學生配置一個faculty advisor,可以幫助學生解決關于research skill的問題。

【學生議論】：男生同意

理由一：他們以前沒做過類似的作業，在research 的過程中可以學到很多。

理由二：他覺得和導師溝通既方便，又可以解決關于essay上的很多問題，還能幫他們提升實驗技能。

Sample response

The university asked students to write a complicate senior thesis, requiring students to do research and meanwhile there will be a faculty advisor to help solve students’ problems with research skill. The man thinks that’s a good idea. First, they haven’t done such an assignment before so students can learn a lot from it. Second, it’s convenient for students to have a chance to communicate with their mentors and to solve their essay problems, enhancing research ability.

Task 4

【名詞解釋】：一種帶給人舒適體驗的design，有了這種設計，可以幫助人們提高工作效率。

【教授舉例】：教授以自己為例。以前在辦公室工作，電話總響，他在接聽電話時還要找file，于是電話只能用肩膀和頭夾著，肩膀和脖子一直固定成一種姿勢。于是不久他的脖子就感到很不舒服，后來學校給他換了一種新的device :headphone,他就可以用麥克風接電話，而且能隨意走動，讓他可以做更多事情，脖子舒服了，工作效率也提高了。

The term refers to a design helping people enhance their work performance. The professor gives an example. In the past there were a lot of phone calls in the office and the professor had to pick up the phone. But at the same time he had to find his files so he had to use his shoulder and head to hold the phone. He felt uncomfortable when he had kept this posture for a long time. Then the university provided a device, a headphone that he can use when he was receiving phone calls. Since then he can walk around, handling his stuffs when he was receiving phone calls, which enhanced his work performance and comfort his neck as well.

Task 5

【學生困難】：學校的poetry club今年招收了20名成員，男生的苦惱是太多人報名poetry reading event ，舉辦場地cafeteria只提供給他們一個小時閱讀時間，規定時間內根本進行不完活動。

【解決方案】：

方案一：只選其中一部分人參加活動，但另一部分人會失望。

方案二：去lecture hall舉辦，可以使用一晚上，但是沒有coffee和snack提供。

The campus poetry club has recruited twenty members this year but what troubles the boy is that too many students apply for poetry reading event and the cafeteria only offers them an hour to finish the activity. There are two possible solutions. First of all, only let some of the students attend the activity, but the other students will be disappointed. Second, go to lecture hall to hold the event; it’s available for a whole night but lecture hall doesn’t offer coffee and snacks.

Task 6

講了discontinue technology這種新技術的兩個缺點

1.Research 過程會很長，會耗費較大人力物力使得產品變貴，只有小部分消費者會買;

舉例：electric car需用電池來驅動，車很貴。

2.人們可能因為購買了新科技的產品需要改變他們的行為習慣。

舉例：購買了電動汽車，就意味著如果他們計劃一個旅行時就要走能給電池充電的地方的路線，且這種充電地方比加油站找起來更難些。
