Task 1

What do you think is the most important thing that parents should teach their children? Please include details in your response.

Sample response

From my own perspective, I consider the sense of self-respect as the most important thing for parents to deliver to their children. There are several reasons.
Firstly, we people need to learn to love ourselves and respect ourselves before showing respect and sympathy to others. It is a natural sequence for us to follow. Only in this way, we can enjoy our lives thoroughly with wisdom.
The second point that praises self-respect is that the world around us is too chaotic to tell good from bad and we have to find answers in every stage of life so as to keep going on. It is then we start to realize that respect for ourselves is what makes us.

Task 2

Some people prefer to spend lots of money on vacation. some people would spend little money on vacation. Which do you prefer and why?

I would spend a lot of money on traveling to places of interests for entertainment and study.
Firstly, entertainment, the multicolored world is a place worth digging for treasures. What we haven’t seen and what we haven’t tasted or witnessed are all there to be discovered. Imagine that when you are standing among the ancient or modern spectacular sights fully immersed into the cloud, it is what the real enjoyment stands for.
Besides, during the journey of the trip, the culture background and other travelers’ experiences are worth learning. Basically, we travel while grow along the way.

Task 3

學校電腦數量不夠，需要建立sign-up系統

女生不同意

-在用的同學被打斷，工作也不連續

-噪音并不是從room發出來的，而是從hall里傳出來的。

Sample response

In the reading material, it is suggested that not enough computers were set up for the students to work on and a sign-up system should be ready to distribute and allocate the limited resources. But the girl in the listening part doesn’t quite agree, she though that first of all, students themselves who are working on the computer for the time being will not be willing to be interrupted and limited by the hours they book. On the other hand, the noise that some students thought might be coming out of the computer room actually came from the hallway, so neither of which according to the women is a valid reason to implement this idea.

Task 4

把一個原則使用在所有事情上

-遺失在咖啡館的包，其實服務員當初是意識到的，但是本著不打擾客人的原則，就未作題型。

Sample response

The professor described a state where a certain principle being applied to a variety of situations can be inappropriate. He made one long example. Once he left his bag in the coffee shop and when he returned trying to fetch the bag, he was told by the barista that it was being noticed that the professor left his bag behind, however, the the women sitting next to him still chose not to inform the professor due to the common principle normally followed in food&beverage industry, which is ‘always try not to disturb the customers’. And we can see in this case, it is obviously a misinterpretation to the principle.

Task 5

女生要去音樂會，但是會因此錯過5點的火車。

解決辦法1: 開男生的車子，但是會比較堵車，＝還會錯過音樂會開頭。

解決方法2:買別的時間的票，但是不知道還有沒有票，也有可能會支付額外的錢。

Sample response

The woman in the conversation ran into a trouble. The time for the concert and the train departure overlaps. The man offered two solutions. One of which is to drive his car, nevertheless, in this case, traffic condition should also be taken into consideration, otherwise in worst case scenario, the woman can still miss the beginning of the concert. The second solution is to book another ticket some other time. However, in this case, whether there is still one ticket available and the possibility to be charged extra money is also a problem to think about. I would like to recommend the first solution. It at least worth a try, and even the worst thing that could happen is missing the beginning of the concert, it certainly out best the case of missing the train.

Task 6

還沒有孵化出來的蛋里的動物可以交流的好處：

第一：可以讓所有的蛋同時孵化出來，因為如果出來晚了媽媽就不要了。當一個破蛋而出的時候，其他的蛋聽到聲音就會有反應，這樣就能一起孵化出來。

第二：這樣的交流可以讓媽媽幫助他們從卵里面出來，鱷魚的蛋在泥土里，如果要孵化，小鱷魚就會發出聲音，母親就會幫助他們去掉身上裹著的泥土。就可以survive。

Sample answer

The professor made two examples to illustrate the good of the communication abilities for the baby in egg. The first one is that they can be born in the same time, if the premiere one breaking out of eggshell makes some noise, and the communication ability does actually exist, the other babies who are still in egg will follow to break out. The other example is about crocodile, their eggs are normally laid in the earth, and if the baby is to break out, it can let the mother crocodile know first, and the mother crocodile can remove the dirt on the surface. Only in this way, the baby crocodile can then survive.
